HOW TO BECOME AN INSTRUCTOR
SWAM instructors come from diverse backgrounds but are all dedicated student volunteers. We have two instructor recruitment periods per year, September and January.
In addition to strong swimming skills, qualified applicants will have:
- Teaching experience (preferably, but not necessarily, swimming-related)
- Experience working with children
- Experience working with persons with disabilities
- You must be a student currently studying at McGill University
Because SWAM is a non-certificate program, possession of valid certifications (such as NLS or WSI) is not a formal requirement for becoming an instructor (although it is a strong asset). A fully certified lifeguard is always on duty during lessons.
As of Fall 2018, all volunteers are required to have a valid Criminal Record Check.
FALL 2024 UPDATE:
Fall registration is CLOSED. We will open instructor applications again in Winter 2025.
